Thirty years ago, a unique album stood out among several records released in the popular Seattle grunge scene. "Diary," the debut album of the American rock band Sunny Day Real Estate, introduced a new sound that would soon influence a generation of artists and leave a lasting legacy for a whole genre. With hits like "Seven," "In Circles," and "Song About an Angel," the album is ranked as amongst the best emo albums of all time in the Italian music magazine XL, with "In Circles" and "Seven," appearing in Vulture's best-of emo songs list.

The album not only became one of the best-selling albums of Sunny Day Real Estate's record label, but it also introduced the band to the music industry as a major proponent of emo music. Its melodic but urgent sound was ahead of its time, making the band one of the pioneers of the emo genre. Rolling Stone regarded the album as an emotional one wherein it "captures the vague inner-turmoil of Enigk's lyrics and propels those turbulent emotions to the heavens." By blending the elements of punk rock and indie rock with emotional and introspective lyrics, Sunny Day Real Estate showed that they are a newcomer that would not be overlooked.

This year, the 30th anniversary of the album will be celebrated through an anniversary tour that will bring the Jeremy Enigk-led band to some of the prominent venues all over the country from March to October. The tour will kick off in Lawrence, Kansas, on March 13 and wrap up in Los Angeles, California, in October. The tour will stop at New York's Irving Plaza on May 15. So, if you are a certified fan, you should book your tickets already.

Moreover, the band also announced that they are releasing a live-in-studio version of Diary that also includes the band's first new song in 10 years, "Novum Vetus." The seven-minute track reportedly came to mind while the band was recording their 1998 album How It Feels To Be Something On. It was recorded at Seattle's London Bridge Studio by original members Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, and William Goldsmith alongside Greg Suran and Chris Jordan. The same sessions also yielded the new live-in-studio recordings of Diary. "Diary – Live At London Bridge Studio" will be released on May 3 — days before their stop at the Irving Plaza.
