Irving Plaza
What's coming to Irving Plaza is basically the top death metal fest of the entire year at this venue. Sanguisugabogg will headline the performance on Friday, November 28th, but really, they're just the tip of the iceberg. Despised Icon, Defeated Sanity, & Corpse Pile will be joining them to make sure that the tone is set early in the night.
Picture it, it's going to be late November, you're going to want to find something to do to get out of the cold NYC streets and the rush of life. Once you step foot on Irving Plaza grounds, you're going to be able to put your coat away, reveal the black t-shirt, and just nod your head to the jams that are going to be coming from the stage. Sanguisugabogg is one of the few modern death metal bands that have been able to slip through the cracks and actually make it to the mainstream. The band formed in 2019, which is literally yesterday when you compare them to some of the traditional heavyweights of the genre. Yet, they're getting tasked with headlining the biggest metal event at Irving Plaza. Why is that? It comes down to the vibes that they're able to generate. Sure, they've got a short music library to fall back on, but hearing them live evokes all that was good about metal in the early 2000s and even before that. When they step out on stage with their heavy guitar lines, you're going to be in that zone way before the first song's up.
One glance at the event poster could give you the wrong idea of what's going down at Irving Plaza on Friday, November 28th. Here's why! You've obviously got Sanguisugabogg headlining, and before the aforementioned Despised Icon, Defeated Sanity, & Corpse Pile will take the stage. Just in case you weren't counting, that's four sets, and that may lead you to believe you're going to be out here all day. Sanguisugabogg usually runs around 40-minute sets and expects the rest of the lineup to do about the same. Doors are at 5 pm, and the performance will probably start around 6. All this means you could be on your way out by 10. It's a "quick", jam-packed rock fest that's going to spice up your Friday night without the endurance needed to experience an actual day at a music festival—a win-win for true metal fans.
The real party is on the floor at Irving Plaza. It really doesn't matter if Sanguisugabogg or any other band is headlining. Now, if you need more leg room, you can always look for a spot on the loft or the areas toward the back of the venue. There's no shame in admitting you don't want to be a part of the pushing and shoving all night!
