20 years ago, the highly influential American band, Minus The Bear, released their landmark second studio album “Menos el Oso”. After a 7 year long break, Minus The Bear have reunited and back on the road to celebrate the album!
On November 8th, Minus The Bear will be playing at the Irving Plaza, in New York, as part of the “Menos el Oso” 20th Anniversary Tour’s schedule. You don’t want to miss this!
Minus The Bear is an American Indie band from Seattle. The band emerged into the rock and indie scene in 2001, the golden era for indie musicians and fans globally. Under Suicide Squeeze Records, Minus The Bear released their debuting album Highly Refined Pirates in 2002, their monumental second album Menos el Oso in 2005, and third album Planet of Ice in 2007.
The band toured for two years in support of Menos el Oso, and released hit singles "The Game Needed Me", and "Pachuca Sunrise". In one interview with Billboard, guitarist Dave Knudson explains the importance of the album coming from having toured and played the album so much that its riffs became a muscle memory “like core childhood memories”. He continues “We were trying to push the envelope back in 2005 on this one, [...] incorporating glitchy guitar samples, hip-hop breakbeats and more electronic elements to the sound we had established on Highly Refined Pirates.” The band consider this album to be the one in which they found their sound and genre.
In 2010, Minus The Bear moved to Dangerbird Records, under which they recorded three further albums before announcing disbandment in 2018. They released a final EP titled Fair Enough and completed a farewell tour by the end of that year. Minus The Bear announced their reunion in March 2025.
